I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to acknowledge

receipt of the letter from your Department of March 20th

the S.S. "China", and in reply to state for the information

of Mr. Secretary Bonar Let that Sir E. Grey concurs in the

views expressed in the War office Letter of March 15th.

I am to add that it is probable that the United States

Consular officer concerned will be prepared to defray the

expenses of the repatriation of the first and fifth of the persons mentioned in the telegram from the Governor of

Hong Kong of March 11th.
